Dance is a pricey sport, so ever since I started buying my own dance clothes and shoes, I've been using Discount Dance Supply. Today I will be reviewing DDS and sharing its pros and cons from my experience.
What is Discount Dance Supply?
Discount Dance Supply describes themselves as the "biggest dancewear mega store offering brand dance and ballet shoes, dance clothing, recital costumes, dance tights." where you can "shop all pointe shoe brands and dance wear at the lowest price."
I personally buy all my ballet, jazz, and tap shoes from DDS, along with leotards and tights- I know most of my dancer friends do so also.
Pros:
- offers products for a lower price than most other retailers
I buy my ballet shoes for around $20 from DDS, whereas I would have paid $30+ for a pair at brand stores.
- often has sales and promotions to save money
At the end of each season, DDS offers sales on shoes, leotards, costumes, and more.
- free shipping with purchases of $65+/ free returns
I buy everything I need in one purchase, so it's usually pretty easy to hit the $65 dollar mark. Right now, DDS is even having a promotion for free shipping on orders $39+. If I don't like an item I bought, returns are as easy as printing out a return slip and mailing my purchase back to DDS.
Cons:
- popular items are sometimes out of stock
Around recital time, tights and black leotards- items that all dancers need- are hard to find.
- can't see items in person/ try them on before purchase
I'm quite short but I have long legs, so sometimes leggings or costumes that I purchase don't fit the way I expect them to. However, do remember that returns are free.
Overall, I think Discount Dance Supply is a great online store for dancers no matter their experience or skill level. Beginners can purchase basic dance gear without having to invest in more expensive products, and more serious dancers can easily buy in bulk items that they know work for them. I will continue to use DDS, and if you want high quality dancewear for less, I encourage you to check it out too!
Misty Copeland, principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater models for and uses DDS (that's a pretty good use of ethos if you ask me!)
I mentioned last month that I was trying to film Me Gustas Tu, but was having some problems. Here's an entertaining clip of me forgetting all the choreography the second my music started. (this video can also be used to represent how school made me feel throughout this month)
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here's to 2018.
